Meet Mike the Barber
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is 'Mike' better know locally and predictably as "Mike the Barber" .
For me it all started back when i was at the "never too late" age of 30 years old, id decided i was ready for a career change from the the world of Motorsport and fast cars and into the exciting world of Gents hair.
It comes as no surprise that my family holds a rich heritage in hairdressing it seemed it too ran rich in my blood and so the journey began.
I started by completing my Barbers training qualifications (City and Guilds) in Leicestershire . It wasn't too long after this that i was lucky enough to be introduced to a very tradition barber "Mister Paul" with over 40 years experience dating back to the 70s . A jovial man with a zest for barber shop banter and a whole wealth of business knowledge in the industry! He also boasted family heritage across both Barbering and ladies hairdressing.
I proceeded with advanced training in skills that could only be found in such a place and with such a long served barber. Following this I went on to build what would be 12 great years in Barbering and still ongoing today.
Over these years i have met many many Barbers and also aspiring Barbers, some of which i went on to train from scratch having never picked up a pair of hairdressing scissors in their life. These people went on to have great enjoyable careers in Barbering, some with myself at our shop in mountsorrel and some elsewhere. keeping those good old traditions going . you can read some of these peoples testimonials at the bottom of this page.
We simply had to create "MDP Barber Academy" officially. keeping old traditions alive.

Mike taught me traditional barbering, from scratch, within a very short space of time.
I didnt have any pervious experience in barbering or hairdressing, but with his excellent expertise he taught me all traditional methods, including scissor work and clipper work with ease.
I would highly recommend Mike for any level of teaching, he is extremely patient and understanding. He delivers a calm way of teaching, and offers so much praise, he was always happy to listen to any concerns I had. He reassured me, and helped build my confidence to be a fully fledged barber.
Mike is also an excellent barber himself, and I would always recommend him to anyone for any cut.
